WWE Monday Night Raw 10/17 Review

Pre-taped Monday Night Raw episodes are rarely of a high quality, and this episode is no different. The highlight was the crowd because the Mexican fans know what’s up. I did expect a bit larger of a reaction for Alberto Del Rio’s entrance on his home soil, but the crowd made up for it during his actual match. CM Punk is no longer the “Voice of the Voiceless,” but is instead just the Voiceless at … Read entire article »

WWE always claim to have a long term plan when it comes to their booking, but I don’t buy it. This Raw seems to be their idea of “winging it”. This John Laurinaitis push is the worst part of it all. I’m no fan of Otunga, but at least he can work a match. Laurinaitis can’t work a match, microphone, crowd, or Sid Vicious main event book. Oklahoma didn’t seem as into the show as …

What am I watching? Professional wrestlers are complaining about an unsafe work environment, that’s the go-to storyline right now? Did Raw jump the shark (for the umpteenth time) when HHH did his crying “pop” speech? Would this be happening if Kevin Nash’s involvement wasn’t insta-fail? Is it really all just a conspiracy? I have to give the WWE one thing, there are some questions to be asked. I’m just not sure if any of the …

Before Money in the Bank, the WWE was the hottest they’ve been since the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock carried the company. Now they’re back to business as usual, and none of the positive press they were garnering seems to have gone anywhere. Remember when Jim Rome, a personality for the biggest sports news company in the galaxy (ESPN), offered CM Punk his air time for his radio show? Do you …

I expected a bit more storytelling after the way Night of Champions ended. With only two weeks until WWE’s Hell in a Cell PPV, things are in a bit of fast forward. We get some answers tonight from Raw, but more questions remain. Cena/Punk were overshadowed, as was wrestling in general. There are so many guys vying for time that Alberto Del Rio was nearly a forgotten man in all of the proceedings. As someone …

I’m not sure why, but the blow-off Raw before PPV’s just haven’t been very good lately. When WWE is at their best, the Raw before a PPV is the best show of the month. That’s just how it is right now. It seems they give away the big surprises (or at least story elements) too early these days. It can’t be easy to find the balance between shocking people before the PPV, and having a …

This week’s Raw was a step in the right direction, and then Cena showed up. The Punk/HHH thing was an entirely first hour deal, which is a bummer. Alberto Del Rio’s politicking was a highlight of the show, and I wonder if they filmed a Swagger segment, and just cut it due to time/bad acting. You can see the tag team division slowly growing and establishing itself again, and that’s a big positive. I would …

I feel like WWE is playing a joke on the fans and CM Punk. They had him re-sign, and everything has been nonsense since. First, the guy can’t get a clean finish to end a match (except the one on new champ Del Rio before SummerSlam, make sense of that), and now he’s in a feud with a guy who literally cannot work in the ring. They also decided to give away all his momentum …

Edmonton was on the money tonight, The tag division is coming back to life like a zombie, and Raw seems to be picking up some momentum again. I seriously cannot give the fans enough credit for making the show entertaining tonight. Wrestling is far more interesting when the crowd actually cares. It didn’t hurt that the show was well paced, featured strong wrestling, and sensible (albeit predictable) storytelling. This week’s Raw was certainly a better …

Raw wasn’t a game changer tonight, but it does leave some doors open for the future. I liked not having to see John Cena for two hours, but they stuck him into the final moments, of course. I expected a little more fall-out from SummerSlam. The main event was about the only watchable wrestling on the entire card. There are a few storylines going on, but the only interesting one involves CM Punk, as usual. …
